Fox News ran a segment entitled “You Do Need A Husband!” on Sunday. Their guest, founder of the site ‘Women for Men’ Suzanne Venker, was on to argue that women are trying too hard to reduce their reliance on men. Her appearance followed up on her article “Why women still need husbands,” published Friday on Fox’s website.

Is anyone actually surprised Fox News did this? I mean really, this is like...daily fodder for them.

Not a bit surprised. Like you say, it's right up their alley.

There really just isn't enough FUCK YOU in the known universe for how vile this Venker woman is. Vile, stupid, sexist, and pathetic.

Just . . . fuck her forever.

I've known straight couples for 20 years who discussed what last name to take (if they're going to share one), who will stay home with kids, who will decide the car they buy, all the negotiations partners need to do. Which makes me disappointed in people still don't do that (and their parents).

It seems like it's wise for a woman to go through much of that sort of thing before marrying a man to see if he can really follow through of his equality.

Congrats!

this so much! We talk alot fo about how we were going to be & what paths we are taking. Has it really become so difficult to talk to each about what you want in life? PS thanks!

Not surprising that ClusterFuck News did this to one of their own puppets, the author can kiss my ass and my working-for-30+ years-married-for-30 years-to-the-same-man mother's.

Fuck all of this. Being dependent on a man, on anyone, is the last thing I want.

At a practical level, it's dangerous! Always has been. I don't know how parents ever set their daughters up that way.

It is dangerous.

My mother all but tried to force me into a mold where I would be dependent on a man. No moral support for me to grow up into an independent woman. Probably because that's the only thing she knew, but then again she's a raging ultra right winger who refuses to see the world any other way than her own.

It's been a hell of a fight to be independent, and it's still a struggle.

This. My mom was a SAHM until I was 16, when she went to school to fulfill a lifelong dream of being a nurse. Not only did she explicitly tell me - during both phases of her life - to never be a stay-at-home mom and never leave the workforce completely if I could help it, I also witnessed the marked difference between SAHM mom and working mom. SAHM Mom always had to ask for money from my dad (who made sure to mete it out in the most autocratic and degrading way possible), didn't have her own car (and therefore had to rely on Dad to get everywhere), and was essentially trapped. She also, by her own admission, felt quite worthless and sort of...beneath my dad, even though she did have part-time and odd jobs at several times during my childhood ( ... )
