I am still facepalming forever at this stupidity. Just......oh my god. BLACK TEENS STANDING AROUND. Everyone run.

These officers would have a heart attack if they had a beat in our department. We have young people standing around in groups all the time! Waiting for a bus or our Safe Ride van!

If the officers had complaints about them, a better option would be to have a unit hang around until their coach arrived. If they have legitimate business, as they stated they did, the officers have no business harassing and ARRESTING them.

These douchebags need to be fired.

If I were the parents of the three kids arrested, I'd sue the police department and the officers and not settle, let them take to trial and explain why arresting three kids who weren't hurting anyone was justified.

If you were the parents of the three kids, you'd probably be looking at the amount offered to settle as being your kids' college costs all paid for with nothing skimped, something that maybe wasn't the case up to that point. You might feel differently about it than you do now.

Apparently the DA says that the charges will be dropped [http://www.buzzfeed.com/adriancarrasquillo/charges-dropped-against-three-black-teens-arrested-while-wai], which is nice. Not as nice as have a police force that isn't staggeringly racist, but, y'know, can't get too demanding! Might upset someone!

I'm ignorant about arrests and jailing and stuff like that, but will the parents get their $200 back they each had to post to free their kids? Or is arresting people and forcing friends and family to post bail a tax on being "uppity"? Sure seems like a lot of people lately are being taken in for "resisting", "combativeness", and "failure to obey".

I have no idea, but frankly I doubt it.
[And yeah, it's all 'Walking on the cracks in the pavement' and the like.]

It partially depends on the state, but also depends on whether they paid directly to the court, or used a bond agent.

If they used a bond agent, they probably won't get their money back. If they paid the court, they may be able to get it back, depending on state laws.

I live maybe 5 minutes from where this happened. Rochester police are racist as hell and everyone knows it. There's really no other way to say it. Compounding the issue is how Rochester proper is basically two cities (another thing everyone knows). Our mayor-elect is a woman of color which leaves me really hopeful that something will finally change since the current mayor doesn't seem to give a shit.

(edited to rephrase a few things...of course I'd think of a better way to say something after posting)
