When I read Michelle Cottle’s article for Politico Magazine, Leaning Out: How Michelle Obama became a feminist nightmare, I had several thoughts, and subsequently, several angles from which they could be expressed:
1.) Discuss the problematic irony in expecting feminism to manifest from an inherently patriarchal, antiquated and heteronormative role

That article was really awful. She finally brings up that hey, maybe Michelle is taking a step back to counteract the awful Angry Black Woman trope that gets dragged out every time she has an opinion and her rebuttal is, "So what, fuck 'em? You won't have to do it for much longer! And besides, give the American people more credit!" Like, are you even black? I think they've gotten all the credit they deserved, as evidenced by the initial piece.

Even with her stepping into the education arena, the article mocks it is as being "safe." And so what if it is? Doesn't mean it's not necessary.

And, really, in a lot of ways picking something 'safe' means she's more likely to be effective. That's political pragmatism.

And, yeah, how can someone *not* have noticed that the Angry Black Woman slurs get dragged out anytime she's less than cheerful? :| There's a lot of "Well you should just deal with it (but I don't have to)" in dismissing that.
