Even though I find Republicans to be generally repugnant, I have to say that I like Dick Cheney a lot more because when met with the choice to stick to a hard line or love his daughter, he chose his daughter. Too bad her sister won't do the same...

Agreed.

I'm wondering if it's less bigotry and more spineless pandering to what opinion is most likely to get her elected/give her opponents no ability to use it against her.

Yeah, I wonder that as well. It's still kind of crappy either way, though. You'd hope your siblings would love you enough to stick up for you even if the opinion might catch them some flack. Personally, I think it's political suicide. More and more young conservatives are supportive of same sex marriage, so she's alienating her future constituency in order to appease the dying generation of bigots... not very smart.

Oh yes, it's deeply awful either way. I'm just not convinced it's an actual statement of principle so much as it's "PLEASE don't make commercials in the primary stating that my sister's totes a lesbian! I don't agree with it! There! Nyah!"

Things erupted on Sunday when Mary Cheney, a lesbian, and her wife were at home watching “Fox News Sunday” - their usual weekend ritual.
why would you do that

that is like a chicken watching Food Network

Well I mean if my sister was going to be on it.

Maybe but that's not a regular event - they do this every week.

Maybe to see their dad but yeah. Seriously. Does the "WE HATE GAY PEOPLE THEY HAVE SEX WITH GOATS" not bother them at all? Do they find a way to internalize it and be like "well we agree with them on Obama" that would just... make me really uncomfortable.

I'm hoping they do it and make it a good drinking game.

Though I did watch a few episodes of America Live with Megyn Kelly because my friend worked on it and it was torture.

I have mixed feelings here. I want to be like "yeah, go Mary Cheney!" for calling this out... but it's hard for me to get too worked up when folks seem to only care about people's rights and well being when those people are themselves. I feel like a lot of republicans are like this :-\ If it affects them personally- yeah, that is one area the party is wrong about. But screw everyone else!
And not only that, but given her previous support of candidates who opposed same sex marriage...
