Yeah, really. I haven't looked into the case, but shockingly enough! Not all rape is violent! It is possible the victim in this case was intoxicated, or otherwise in a state where she was unable to give consent to what was being done and ON VIDEO.
Alcohol and drugs are the favored tool of rapists on college campuses. It sounds like this douche is saying because she wasn't held down, beaten, and screaming for help that it was completely consensual. When.....sorry, we've evolved to the point where the legal standard no longer requires physical violence to count. Sexual Assault involves the victim being forced, which can take the form of being drugged/drunk, mentally ill, disabled, asleep, or otherwise in a state where they are unable to give their consent. It can also apply to cases where the person was verbally or physically coerced without violence being involved.
( Trying to form that expanded thought whilst containing my fury at the dingbats and cuddling baby...)
I detest the notion now that it's only really rape if she's sober and fights back. Because well, its another little notch under the "its not really rape IF" thing. Boys will be boys. he's a good boy. he's an athlete and the school needs him. She was drunk. she changed her mind. She lied. She didn't fightback.
GAAAH. Its not just drunk co-eds at college, either.
There were only a few comments in that thread when I left mine, so now I'm reading through it and HOLY FUCKING SHIT my blood pressure just hit the ceiling.
I am a HUGE fan of the SPLC. They really do amazing, amazing work, of which this is just one example.
I notice the group mentioned in the article (Crimes *cough gag* Against Fathers--sorry, typing that was much too painful) is not included in the SPLC list, at least not yet. I'm thrilled, though, to see that the SPLC have this stuff on their radar. (Saddened that this is necessary, but thrilled that they are on top of it.)

And I'd wonder how he got to be such an expert on analysis of what "rape looks like".
