Lol so we can't feed our most vulnerable children but GOD FORBID some veterans not be able to see a statue.

Very reminiscent of the Daily Show's bit on Tuesday, where he juxtaposed Republicans saying the the shutdown was nbd even though WIC is closed down, but were OUTRAGED months ago when Obama stopped White House tours because "children were so upset!".

The US is in a clusterfuck of a mess with the federal government shutdown, all thanks to Bachmann and her cronies in Congress, and whether a monument is open or not is the thing they choose to prioritise? Are you fucking kidding me?

I mean, I've no argument with the veterans wanting to see the monument - because I've seen how special things like that can be to veterans. But I'm pretty fucking sure every member of Congress has an underling that they could have sent to ensure access to the memorial whilst they get on with the business of fixing the shitfest they've caused.

I was trying not to. The fact that she and her cronies are willing to use those who fought for the freedoms that they would so blithely deny to many USians as a photo op makes me nauseous.

So the idiot who cheerleads the shut down is bothered by something that is... shut down. (Only the stuff she's bothered by, mind you. WIC and the EPA can hang it.)

I'm trying to avoid labels and stick with the generic 'shithead'.

In her mind it was Obama that shut down the government, not House Republicans. I heard some of them trying to frame this as a matter of fairness because some places get a year delay. And who could hate fairness?

Also, to be fair, the WWII veterans let themselves in. And then, when some Congress members heard about it they schlepped on over for some photo ops and propaganda spewing.

Some people are completely unaware of irony.

Right? I actually love the image of the old WWII vets, casually strolling past a closed sign & barricades (were there barricades? there are in my mind).

Bachmann & the other dude can GTFO.

There were in fact barricades. Part of the shutdown plan involves barricading off all of the monuments to prevent wear and tear while maintenance crews are shutdown.

Actually, according to an article a ranger friend of mine posted, rangers were the ones letting the veterans in but turning away the general public (including a congressman mad about the closure)

"Every day there's a shutdown, we're going to be here to make sure the veterans get in," Bachmann said. "There'll be some members of Congress here to make sure they get in."

Because, by God, there's photo ops to be made!
