Holy crap. I was a grad student at uiuc and I had a friend who lived in that complex. That is terrifying enough even from this distance - my thoughts are with allow you dealing with being on campus (and if course to the victim's family.)
It's frustrating and disappointing that one of the first comments her friend makes is an attempt to victim-blame. Intellectually, I can see that it was rhetorical, but that it was put in the paper (where its rhetorical impact is lost) is unacceptable. Like, NO ONE DESERVES TO BE MURDERED. Jesus. EVER. WTF is wrong with us, that we think there might be a reason for slashing someone's throat and repeatedly stabbing them!? If he was still dating her, nothing she could do would call for that level of violence. Why is he looking for reason? Ci is a fucking murderer who should be condemned and banned from human society, and even once he gets some mental health care, he should be away from people. I hate everything about this
( ... )
I remember the dart shit. Apparently, it was going on in campustown? Either way it goes, they got the guys about a month ago.
And CU has that problem. Even sadder - its not limited to the students. The damn kids have to deal with it too. As soon as Urbana District 116 and Champaign Unit 4 started school, people started abducting and following kids. Some girl was even abducted in Rantoul.
I try so hard to keep my ass out of Campustown. Traffic is terrible and so much horrible shit goes down near campus. And Champaign police would rather hang out over near Bradley, trying to keep an eye on what the black folk are doing down there. Hell, the only reason why they close the gates at One South at night is because they're like, "The neighborhood behind One South is sketchy."
Omg this is fucking horrific. I'm having flashbacks to my own school at CSULB where a woman was strangled to death by her ex- boyfriend (and she had other injuries as well), and her ex stuffed Advil up her nose and belt around her neck and underwear stuffed in her mouth, and her ex doused her in fabric softner to hide the smell.
And from reading your comments, OP, I do hope some heads roll for lack of security and I hope security is beefed up to keep you and the other students safe. What a fucking nightmare.
