Panama Seizes North Korean Ship For Weapons

The Panamanian authorities impounded a rusting North Korean freighter on a voyage from Cuba toward the Panama Canal and back to its home country, and said the ship was carrying missile system components cloaked in a cargo of sugar. Bah. Just...both of these countries are kind of desperate and isolated and still working in a sort of sixties haze of paranoia and repression. It's mostly just horrifying for the people trapped there.

Several people from Cuban live in my small town in Canada. Perhaps they married a Canadian but they don't strike me as isolated, not the way North Koreans are. FWIW

Well, not Cubans in Canada, but it seems that Cuba itself is isolated from the world, from interaction, from a lot of things. Obviously not as badly as NK, but somewhat.

I know *they* aren't isolated--I meant Cubans. These aren't refugees or people who left Cuba 50 years ago but people who immigrated to Canada recently. Cubans (in Cuba) see media and tourists from around the world so I wouldn't call them isolated like NK.

The political power is isolated from the west (ie. the US) and perhaps that's what you meant. Something led someone to make a very bad decision on this!
