Ohio governor passes some of the most restrictive abortion laws in nation, redefines 'pregnancy'

COLUMBUS, Ohio -Ohio Gov. John Kasich has signed a new state budget, keeping controversial abortion provisions.

...

Kasich vetoed 22 line-item measures. But he did not veto a controversial abortion provision that would now force women to undergo an ultrasound before having the procedure. The new rule blocks abortion clinics from transferring ( Read more... )

Women are a (slim) majority of the population. We need to start voting for our own interests and safety.

Unfortunately, some women have drunk the pro-liar Kool-Aid. :(

And I'm so ashamed of my home state right now I can't even.

The new provision defines a fetus as “human offspring developing during pregnancy from the moment of conception and includes the embryonic stage of development

No, you idiots, the embryonic stage of development is an EMBRYO, not a fetus. YOU EVEN SAY THAT! You can't have an embryonic stage without it being an embryo. UUUUUUUUUUGH.

Also, wait, if pregnancy is now a fertilized egg, does that mean my body is committing murder when it menstruates, considering how you can shed a fertilized, yet unattached egg during that process?

ugh ugh ugh ugh I am so grossed out by this. I live about 35 miles away from Columbus, and there are absolutely no abortion services anywhere closer than the big cities: Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati. We don't even have a PP center in my town as it is. If more abortion clinics close, it's going to be even harder for women who need them to be able to get them. :( and it wasn't even easy before.

God, I hate Kasich. We have GOT to vote that dude out in the next election.

When I lived in Newark, Ohio there was a Planned Parenthood, but they didn't provide abortions. (I live near Mt. Vernon now and they don't even have a PP as far as I know.) But yes, women around here have to go to Columbus, Cleveland, or Cincinnati for abortions. Then you add to that the fact that they now have a 24 hour waiting period and have to get the big city twice (when even getting there once might be hassle enough) it makes it even worse. And now this. Ugh.

Every time I hear one of these idiots spouting off about heartbeat stuff I want to scream at them. My sister has two children but she has been pregnant near a dozen times, all on purpose. And she lost every one of those pregnancies after six weeks. These fucking assholes need to learn some basic biology and empathy, stat!

Seriously. The idea that a doctor could adequately predict that a fetus would be viable to term at any point in the pregnancy is a joke, never the less only six weeks in. I know women who lost their pregnancies a month before they were due, suddenly, and for seemingly no reason. I'd think that doctors would be fighting tooth and nail against that rule considering how many malpractice cases could come from it.
