I went out around 3pm, which was after the shooting but during the non-stop news coverage of it and my area (a bit south of Santa Monica) was like a freaking ghost town.

They closed a bunch of roads near SMC, and they temporarily closed roads when Obama's motorcade passed by to head back to LAX, but I think it was mostly people glued to their TV's or too scared to leave their house.

Right, i guess they wanted to make sure it was just a lone gunman, not two or three. :/

RIP the four who died and best of luck to the five who were injured. It's scary to go any place now because these type of shootings are happening everywhere and so much needs to be done to prevent this but it won't happen and it continues on and on and on. The question after these shootings is where next because nothing gets done and it happens again.

A few days ago I saw this video from a blog-news website and I thought it was pretty interesting.

I'm acquainted with a student there and an instructor which personalized this a little for me. Still, I'm freaked out that this feels like it's becoming a regular thing.

Does anyone here recall when freeway shootings were a thing? (maybe just or mainly in So Cal)? They were random and fairly frequent... and then they died out like any other trend. Has that been explained? Is there reason to hope shooting sprees might go the same way?

God, those victims could have easily been some of my friends who graduated from SMC last year. They went to the library often, especially for finals, and this kind of mindless and random devastation is frightening. It has to stop...

As a librarian this is absolutely my worst nightmare. I hope all the injured pull through ok.
