100 percent happy that Cheerios didn't back down. I love Cheerio-covered dad! His slightly hysterical calling out for his wife from the couch makes me giggle.
As the mother of a mixed race child - you know what? I'm not going to call her mixed race, because I don't accept that there are 'races' of human beings. Her dad's Ethiopian, I'm Anglo-Australian, she's just a great kid with light brown skin. Good on you, Cheerios, and I will buy a packet this week just to show my support.
Starting from a position of social equity. She's been socially engineered since birth to accept other people in all their gorgeousness. So she is pro GLBTQ rights, pro-Indigenous Australian rights, and finds the idea of 'racism' utterly stupid. Fortunately, she has never encountered overt racism herself yet, and I hope that when/if she does, she's level headed and secure enough to deal with it as she knows her mum would. She's almost ten years old. She's pretty cool.
But there ARE races of human beings. They may not be biologically grounded, but just because something is socially constructed doesn't mean that it's not real.
