A high school student in Wichita, Kansas, was suspended for the rest of the school year after tweeting a mild criticism of the school sports programs

Um. . .am I missing something? Were there a whole lot of tweets? Because: “‘Heights U’ is equivalent to WSU’s football.” doesn't equal ..."very inappropriate tweets about the Heights athletic teams, aggressively disrespecting many athletes,” Nor does it seem like he was trying to 'incite the majority of the Heights athletes'.
“After reading the tweets and taking statements from other students it was found that Wesley acted to incite the majority of our Heights athletes.”
so on the butthurt assumptions of a bunch of failed little athletes, they hit this kid with a suspension. i'd like to see proof that they're telepaths that KNEW Wesley was tweeting specifically to "slander" THEM.
This infuriates me more than I first realized it would.
When students make comments online making disgusting jabs at, for example, their classmates' appearance/sexual abuse/etc. and, y'know, actually harassing them, that is never a problem-- not just with this schoolboard, but ANY schoolboard just about anywhere-- and in fact most make up some excuse for why they shouldn't do anything like "We can't police what people say online because we can't prove it happened on school grounds" (as was often the case at the schools I attended, anyway)
But someone criticizes the sports team on Twitter? THIS IS CLEARLY CYBERBULLYING MEANT TO RILE UP OUR ATHLETES AND HURT THEIR FEELINGS, THIS PERSON IS BEING SUSPENDED.
You are FUCKING joking me. This is absolute bullshit.
