Bangladesh building collapse death toll over 800

The army in Bangladesh says 804 people have been confirmed dead after the collapse of an eight-storey factory building near the capital Dhaka.

Authorities are continuing to search the rubble for more bodies two weeks after the Rana Plaza building collapsed on 24 April.

I've read elsewhere that the deathtoll was closer to 930.

Like, I just don't know.

The EU has said it is considering "appropriate action" to encourage an improvement in working conditions in Bangladesh factories.

Let me help them with that... how about charging the western companies who engage the service of these dangerous sweat shops to make their products - abusing workers from poorer countries with less stringent labour laws by ignoring poor safety practice and less stringent safety standards in the name of profit - with corporate manslaughter.

Whilst I wish with all my heart that 800-1000 people didn't have to die to teach the western world this lesson, I really hope that this tragedy makes people start taking more notice of where the things they buy come from - and the ethical and safety standards of both manufacturer and retailer of those items.
