I get so angry about this that it's hard to post a coherent comment. I can't fathom the selfishness and stupidity behind not vaccinating one's children. It's not like there isn't copious amounts of stuff out there disputing Wakefield's claims, and it's not like it's hard to go to Waterstones and pick up a copy of Bad Science (which explained to this layperson exactly how stupid the anti-vaxxer stance is). I don't get why, when you're making such a huge decision about your child because you're so concerned about them, you wouldn't educate yourself!

really?! I'm acquainted with people who don't vaccinate and their focus is keeping their children safe. They reacting emotionally but not for fear of their children altering but dying--some already have kids who are special needs.

I think they really don't think their kids are susceptible to these diseases. A lot of people believe they're gone, while others seem to just not remember how big of a deal they were. And a lot of people are just self-absorbed jerks who intend to rely on the herd immunity of other people who are vaccinated.

It pisses me off. I've known people who've gone through chemo. People like this are just so dangerous.

This. There was a clown in the Guardian article I linked to above who said it was basically up to the parents to give their children organic oranges (and fuck you if you're poor) and all illnesses (including the common cold, lol) would never touch them.

Spoken like someone who has never sent their kids to pre-school. They get exposed to so much in there!

ETA: All the oranges in the world do nothing for a kid who doesn't wash their hands properly! And when your toddler has pink-eye, good luck with that. When my son had it at age two (thank you, pre-school), he was rubbing his face all over our furniture! We were frantically washing his hands, wiping everything down with disinfectant wipes. It was a lost cause. We all took turns getting that one.

Honestly fuck anyone who doesn't vaccinate their children! They should all go to jail for attempted murder because not vaccinating affects not just their children but the kids too small to vaccinate & elderly people who need the herd immunity to survive! RAWR!! This makes me so angry I just cannot!!!!

Not to mention the healthy-looking among us who are immunocompromised. Transplant patients, people receiving chemotherapy, and others generally don't wear signs announcing their immunocompromised state.

Yup. My partner and I both are on immune suppressants to treat our RA. This shit is literally life-threatening for us.
