Huh, I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that my last visit to Walmart was TERRIBLE? My husband and I shop there once a month, because our local grocery stores in Manhattan are so ridiculously expensive. We went on a Sunday, but we always go on the weekends. There was like nothing on the shelves - and regular items, like grape juice and rice and flour were kind of difficult to find. The last TWO times I went there there was no regular spaghetti. Fresh food was a no-go. There was no beef or pork meat on the shelves. They only had chicken legs. And the place was a mess ( ... )

why the hell would anyone prefer Wal-Mart to Target? Target has the same products, same prices, and a cleaner store...

I do not know, my friend. The last time I suggested it we ended up getting into an argument. I don't remember why.

I understand. I guess it's in the same vein as my boyfriend's love affair with the local Mister Max (basically the Japanese version of Wal-Mart). Even though it's stupidly busy and crowded 24/7 and doesn't have a good grocery section, really....still, I suggest we go somewhere different and the *frustrated sigh*s begin...

Now this is interesting. If Wally's World is in deep trouble, that raises the prospect that this kind of dishonest Madoff-style accounting may be going on in other mega-corporations better able to conceal their problems.

I have found molding fruit, black lettuce, and rotten vegetables in WalMart before. I only shop there b/c it's the cheapest in town. :/ I mean, it doesn't happen every time that I find food like that, but it has happened.

I know the Walmart I worked at this summer was a complete cluster. We had no space in the back to actually put anything and have it be recorded in the system. We had at least 20 pallets uninventoried a person tall. There was also pallets of rotting fruit in the back as well.

I used to work at Walmart and by far our biggest issue was scheduling enough people. As in there was never enough people. One night we had two people covering the whole floor. People can barely cover their own area and all price changes/putting out new stock/cleaning by themselves, let alone covering half the floor. After Jan 1st they'd cut everybodies hours to 12 hrs a week, three 4 hour shifts, people had to spend more in gas then they were being paid.
Shrinkage is always going to be out of control when you don't have enough workers, people can easily go into paint department and open something because there is never anybody back there. Which was where our lunch room/punch clock was so everytime you had to get back there you would be swarmed by people asking you for help.
Really horrible business practice. Other then that my coworkers were great, and they treated me well (breaks, time off etc)
