As someone who struggles with not seeing ALL rich people as evil (can you blame me??) thank you Mr. President for not being an amoral, fascist sociopath. I believe he also donated the money he won for the Nobel Peace Prize, which would have doubled his income, is that correct? Props to you sir, props!

It's great and all, don't get me wrong, but 5%, really?

$20,000 doesn't even cover one year of grad school for me.

And it's more than some people make in a year.

It's all in perspective.

Put me on that "some people" list. I'd be pleased to make that much a year... I'm giving props to our president for this.

Yeah, my social security (which I decided I might as well start collecting when I gave up hope of getting a full time job) doesn't come to nearly that.

Let's face it, some people wouldn't be satisfied even if he gave back his whole presidential salary. Hell, if he gave back all of that plus part of his other income (royalties from books or whatever), they'd just accuse him of grandstanding.

This is a case of doing what's right, and fuck whether people think it's cool or not. And I think what he's doing is right!

As a state employee who has suffered from furloughs since 2009, I appreciate the gesture. I will never forgive the state legislators who not only didn't take a cut themselves, but snuck through large increases for their (state-paid) staffers. I expect that from Republicans who make no secret of hating us, but a big fat FU to the Dems who pretend to care about services and worker rights. Karen Bass, I'm looking at you.
