Maryland legislature votes to end death penalty

(CNN) -- By a margin of 82-56, the Maryland House of Delegates voted Friday to ban the death penalty in that state. The bill now goes to the desk of Gov. Martin O'Malley, who has pledged to sign it.

Wow, I didn't realize that states without the death penalty actually outnumber those that have it! (And I am so happy to live in a state--IL--that repealed it over a year and a half ago.)

They don't. 33 states have it, and 17 (and DC) don't.

I used to have a co-worker and a shift supervisor who thought my life outside of the workplace was Their Business. I kept having to tell them, "Don't make me force Colorado to reinstate the death penalty."

I'm glad for this. There are too many people sitting on death row who could be innocent. My heart always warms when I see people get exonerated over DNA evidence that 20 something years ago didn't get considered. :)
