Not sure how I feel about this. I mean, I'm sure it's nice and everything being treated like a celebrity in Pyongyang, but Rodman seems really eager to ignore or sidestep a lot of the atrocities going on in North Korea. Not sure I could count someone who waves nuclear weapons around to get attention as "a friend for life".
It's a shockingly shitty thing to do. Still, celebs do it for the money. I'd like to think that this is going to be more along the lines of an expose. /naive
Did you see their visit to N Korea a few years ago: (sorry, keyboard keeps turning French so I've lost the question mark) It showed how much was propaganda and facade--reminded me of visiting the Soviet Union.
If they use this film to let more people know about work camps and mass graves, good. If itès to be cute with the funny little dictator, not so good.
Slightly offtopic, but your comment made me remember...
For as reviled as Nixon is, if you look at what he did while he was president (other than that whole giant scandal thing) he did some pretty impressive stuff. China, pulling us out of Vietnam, keeping close ties to the Cuban exile community, reaffirming agreements with Khrushchev, brokering the first two anti-nuclear proliferation treaties, started OSHA and the EPA, presided over desegregation, signed the first real Affirmative Action legislation..
I mean, he did a lot of shitty things too, but still.
I remember hearing about this story with the headline "Dennis Rodman goes to North Korea with Harlem Globetrotters to Shoot Reality Show." which is just chocked full of what the fuckary.
