No. The police made multiple attempts to correct said mistake and were rebuffed, which means that CPS doubled down on their mistake after being called on it.

Have they not read Heir to the Empire? A mistake is only a mistake until you refuse to correct it, at which point it becomes an error.

The cops did all they could to correct things; the CPS insisted on a witness statement from the dog anyway; they got one. Complaining about a joke because their own insistent stupidity is what makes it funny is, well, barking up the wrong tree.
