'This is Why Women's Hygiene Companies Shouldn't Let Teen Boys Run Their Marketing Teams'

Playtex Products (not to be confused with the entirely separate Playtex bra company) decided to run an edgy ad campaign (if you define middle-school lady-part jokes to be "edgy") for "Fresh + Sexy wipes", a private parts washcloth. I haven't confirmed who ( Read more... )

My OBGYN has told me to avoid anything like those wipes or douches for years because a healthy vagina is self-cleaning. It ticks me off that those ads just play on a women's insecurities to sell an unhealthy product. Next thing you know they will be telling us to douche with Lysol again.

A vagina is self-cleaning, but is a mild wipe really bad for labia and vulva? That stuff needs to be washed, it gets stinky! Note that I have no idea what types of cleaners are in these wipes and am not endorsing them, but they aren't douches to be used internally, so they may not be bad for vaginal flora balance.

I only use mild soap (Dove) on my vulva and the outer areas and just water on the inside. I would just worry with those wipes that all that sensitive skin would get irritated even if it didn't get near the vagina.

I haven't looked at the ingredients, but it might be okay so long as it's on the outside. I think it's probably better to just clean up in the shower, with warm water, but sometimes when things are heavy it could be nice to have a little something else in between.

I'd compare what it says is in them with maybe some sensitive skin baby wipes, as well as the prices.

BEST COMMENT EVER on FB about this:

I'd rather bleed through all my clothes than wear your products. Try less misogynous[sic] marketing, Playtex.

Agreed.
