I've been hoping to see him and others held accountable. There are plenty of others to go after.

Pope Benedict seeking immunity from prosecution regarding child abuse

Well, well, well. I wonder if they have any dirt on him personally, KWIM?

seriously. Because while the prevalence of pedophiles in the priesthood is the same as in the general population (of men), the prevalence of pedophiles in the higher ranks of the church is higher. They seem to actively reward some of these guys by giving them promotions after finding out they were pedophiles and hiding it. So.... yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if they did have something on him personally. And if they dont have evidence that he himself is a pedophile, they certainly have evidence that he actively covered up pedophilia and turned a blind eye and just left children to be tortured and raped when he KNEW it was happening. Ugh.

At first I thought he was stepping down because someone had dug up evidence he'd been a real, honest-to-God Nazi, but when I read this... yeah. Pedophile.

Of course, he could be both. That wouldn't surprise me a bit, honestly. He's pure evil, IMO.

Weeeeeell....he may or may not be a pedophile himself, but either way he bears a HUGE amount of culpability, as seasontoseason alluded to above. Here's a link to an article that lays it out pretty succinctly: according to The Great Catholic Cover-UpAnd here's a key quote from the article linked above ( ... )

I wish that "Tribunal" was legit but its not. they're basically just a group of people who formed a "common law court"

I need to get this conservative Catholic on my FB feed to understand that the church coverups are real and his delusional, abuse denying ass needs to sit the fuck down.

Well, if you want to mention this to him- there's a documentary called 'Deliver Us From Evil' which specifically goes on about sexual abuse cases within the Catholic Church. (warning: there is discussion of rape in the trailer for it)

I saw that documentary, and I can't recommend it more highly. It is fascinating, disturbing, and very, very POWERFUL.

...Blimey. Well, um, good luck to them, I guess. I don't know how successful they'll be, but it's certainly an impressive initiative.
