Typical Stalinists. Can't feed their people worth a damn but they're testing nukes. *shakes head*

Yup. The military and party leaders get the best of everything, so the people they care about are taken care of.

North Korea regular conducts nuclear tests to save face. It's a lot of sound and fury that ultimately means nothing.

I read on CNN, I believe, that they upgraded it to a 5.1 magnitude, which means the blast is estimated to be equivalent to 10 kilotons. I also read, though I don't remember where, that China is REALLY not happy about this one.

Not sure whether to be concerned or not. I want to say no, but I feel like we can only say no so many times before things get very, very real.

If I were China I'd be not happy too. I mean, if North Korea ever attacks with their nukes they're likely to hit China or Japan.

Yeah, the impression that I got was that with China having their own concerns right now, they are bothered that NK is stirring the pot, especially as they'd JUST asked NK to take a chill pill. You know things are getting strained when even China is considering tightening up/cutting off some aid to their ally, and they're openly expressing their annoyance over their state run news. And it can't be made better with the fact that NK, without actually naming China, has been making very pointed remarks criticizing China over voting with the U.N. for sanctions against them.

China is in a bit of a bind as they want to keep NK close, but they also don't want them mucking about. It definitely adds a complex layer onto things!

I thought that Seoul was really the main target for a potential conflict. I know that Japan and China, especially, have told NK to chill out already about this, but from my (albeit limited) understanding, SK would be the worst off if anything were to happen.
