Admittedly, part of me wonders if the reason for the low approval ratings is that they negotiated at all, considering the drop seems to be tied specifically to the fiscal cliff negotiations.

Its probably true, the congressfools will take it as a sign they're not extreme enough but after so many of the really extreme ones lost seats, you'd think it'd be a BIGGER sign.

They are well and truly toast as a party.

I they're respond to changing times. If the far right has been tapped out, they'll move to the centre. If they don't find candidates who can appeal to both the far right and moderates, I agree that they won't be a force at a national level.

A friend of mine linked to a FB poll supposedly from the Repubs asking what changes people would like to see in the party. The responses were... discouraging.

So does this mean there's a growing divide between the far right and more moderate Repubs? The party will go wherever the numbers are but this looks like 50/50...
