I am very, very sorry for this man's family, and the other victim's family, as well. And very glad they found the suspect.

That said - why didn't a whole gun-range full of gun-enthusiasts and gun-toting people stop this shooting? NRA/GOP/gun-nuts, I await your reply.

This is exactly what I wanted to say. There seems to be very little if any evidence that being heavily armed makes individuals safer, and it's absolutely heartbreaking that it keeps taking senseless tragedies like these to show that.

I read that book. His wife wrote a couple of chapters in it and you could tell how much love there was between them. This is just unbelievable to me.

Saw it said best on Twitter just now:

BEST guy with gun gunned down by bad guy with a gun "Navy SEAL, shot dead on Texas gun range, police make arrest" http://natpo.st/XQC3pU #NRA

My condolences to the family.

And watch out, people are already saying its a US plot to silence him, since he was murdered while America's in Super Bowl mode.

Silence him about what? Was he saying anything particularly controversial?

He was pro-gun rights and recently said that teachers should be armed maybe. that or he knew too much about the war.

Not as far as I know unless his book (which I haven't read) said something it shouldn't have. But hay its a silly conspiracy it don't gotta make sense.

i feel really fucking awful for his family, that is such a horrendous way to lose a parent.

this is precisely why i can't deal with folks who think just any jackass should be able to carry around a gun because they could stop shootings like this. this guy was one of the most trained and skilled shooters in the nation and he got murdered. so what to these wannabe cowboys think they're gonna accomplish against another shooter that this guy didn't?

Also, this happened at GUN RANGE, place where literally EVERYONE is armed and can shoot with some proficiency and no one could stop this so what do these lone wild west cowboys think they can do?

Oh, they'll just argue that the safety rules at the range were too strict and therefore their response was delayed. Or, if the shooter turns out to have some sort of record for homicide or assault, that his prior victim(s) should have been armed and taken him out before he could kill an ~American Hero~.

I <3 logic, but there's no denying it can be put to some pretty twisted purposes.

My husband's argument (and I take much of what I hear from him with a grain of salt) is that a shooting range is one of the easiest places for someone to get away with shooting someone because everyone is focused on shooting on the range, and more gunshots won't be noticed. Thus, it's easy to sneak up on someone and shoot them and get away without anyone at all noticing anything. I'm sure that will be the argument of many others.
