Egyptian president imposes state of emergency in 3 cities after deadly clashes

CAIRO - Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi declared a month-long state of emergency on Sunday in three cities along the Suez Canal which have been the focus of anti-government violence that has killed dozens of people over the past four days.

ugh, this is so sad! and it really does seem like a vicious cycle, as one of the interviewed egyptians mentioned; people revolt against the government that they think is too power-hungry, which causes the government to beef up "emergency security measures", which are just more power-hungry and then people get even angrier and revolt more. i can't claim to be an expert on the subject though.

on a semi-related note, it makes me so angry to hear all the gun nuts in america talking about how obama is a tyrant who is trying to take everyone's weapons away, when our problems are a far cry from what is happening in many middle eastern countries right now. we're so lucky that many of us in america have never had to live in a warzone.

This is really depressing. I really had so much hope that things were gonna change for Egypt after this, but...... sigh.

It's amazing though how the people are still fighting for the kind of government they want.
