Stupid question but what part of his comment was anti-Semitic? Was it the part about Jewish owned press? That's wrong to begin with because it isn't even true. He is so annoying.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! I honestly never learned that work in school which is weird. But I hate feeling ignorant on these matters. I really appreciate you taking the time to explain all of it to me!

also has to do with the history of money-handling being considered an 'unchristian' job that many jews in europe did instead

This. It was considered unchristian to loan money with interest. You can loan money, but asking for interest is not Christ like. So it often was the Jews doing the lending.

And a great deal of the time this was a government job and also the only jobs Jews were legally allowed to perform. So it ended up being a double-bind of giving people no other options and then reviling them for doing what they were essentially forced to do.

I think it can be traced to crap like "The Protocols of The Elders of Zion".

It was written by the Czarist secret-police.

I'm pretty sure the idea of Jews controlling everything goes back further than that. Like, thousands of years earlier. At least as far as the early days of Christian Anti-Semitism, where Jews were considered to have killed Christ and thus in league with the devil. (Despite the "fact" that Christ was sent to earth to die. Sigh.)

Oh you're right - I just meant the "press-ownership" "war-mongering" crap that seems to have started in the 20th Century, very specifically.

When you read conspiracy shit that blames Jews for both facism AND communism - and, of course! they own all the banks too - that's (I think) in the Protocols.

I've never read them actually, I'm ashamed to say. I will have to do it this weekend.

Now I've typed all that up I realize it's no different, really, from blood-libel is it?

So yeah - I started out kind of disagreeing and the act of responding means I now agree with you totally. (I do this all the time - sorry)

I think it's fair to say that Jewish culture encourages and values high-ranking careers (and to state the obvi there's nothing wrong with that). But of course an anti-Semitic person can't see a Jewish person as being successful and having earned it through hard work - they must be ~controlling everything~. From the ~inside~.

I always figured it came from the need - or the perceived need - for a scapegoat. "Things are shitty? It's obviously the fault of those people, who are different from us."
