In Obama's 2nd Term, Will Democrats Challenge US Drones, Killings?

During Democracy Now!'s seven-hour election special last night, investigative reporter Jeremy Scahill asks Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich about the secret drone war that has expanded under President Obama's first term and the killing of Anwar al-Awlaki, an American citizen struck by a U.S. drone strike in Yemen last year ( Read more... )

I think it'll be hard to get a significant amount of people to call this out, tbh, since it seems like a lot of people either blanket approve the drone strikes or think that the successes of the drone strikes justifies the civilian casualties.

My own grandmother surprised me with her "bomb them all" attitude and that's what we'll pretty much be working against here, on top of the fact that media coverage of the strikes is spotty.

Success attributed to a Democratic president, Democrats won't call it out. Trigger-happy Republicans with oil investments won't call it out. What a wonderful pickle we're in.

Yes, no one cares. I'm really disheartened by it.

The one thing I've had Facebook conservatives agree with Obama on is the drone strikes. A few Ron Paulites care, but not on the basis of it being wrong by itself, but because it's Obama. I doubt anyone cares in congress and if they do, they don't feel confident enough to express those concerns.

One thing all of us liberals/progressives need to do is speak about this. This is our country killing people. People always talk about what they would do if...well, this isn't an if situation. It is happening.

I think one of the things that irks me the most is Democrats politely disagreeing with drone strikes but going no further. If a Republican was doing this they would be outraged, but because it's a Democrat it's simply "unfortunate". Go wash the blood off your hands, hypocrites.

I posted an article about it on facebook, and said this is what half the country endorsed on election. One democrat friend got upset, and all my other Jill Stein supporters backed me up. I'm appalled that NONE of my democrat friends are talking about this. It makes me even more disgusted with democrats.

Yeah I had a huge FB argument with one of my super-Democratic friends (as in, he works on campaigns and plans to make politics his career).

I brought it up and he literally said QUOTE "I don't know much about the drones issue."

So I linked him some articles and he said QUOTE "Democrats aren't opposed to wars, we're just opposed to losing them."

THE FUTURE OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN.
