You really should edit your post to reflect that the New York Marathon has been canceled and your link suggesting survivalism is the answer is nonsensical victim blaming. Not everyone has the resources to be a survivalist, and all the hoarded cans and guns and ability to grow food in the world won't help you if your entire house washes away and your yard is covered in three feet of sand.

Edited for typos. I'm using my thumbs on my phone with the sun glaring on my screen.

Seriously. Did the people in Staten Island even have time to evacuate, even if they had a survival cabin (and assuming they had this cabin far enough away that it would not be affected by the storm)? Planes and trains were cancelled, roads were flooded. The early predictions had the worst of the storm hitting south of New York and I don't think anyone realized how bad it would be until it was too late to do anything but stay put and hope.

I am so glad to find out they canceled it. It was such an ill-thought idea.

yeah, as someone who is FROM staten island and still has 90% of his family there in the middle of complete and utter devastation, while emergency services are pulling bodies out of wrecked houses (only a fraction of which they can get to):

like you give a single fuck about us. seriously, fuck you.

I'm so sorry. I hope your family is okay.

Thank you. Thankfully, my family is safe and accounted for - but the devastation is awful and they were very, very lucky. Right now the 'official' death count on SI is 22, but they cannot even reach most of the homes because of severe flooding. Word on the ground is that the count will grow exponentially over the next few days. My aunt was in tears on the phone last night.

Link criticising Obama for visiting New Jersey. Yeah, I see what you're getting at. Sorry, Obama is no Romney or Bush.

Yeah, Romney would rather that there was no FEMA to respond at all.

Seriously. I side-eyed this post, OP is the sort who hates FEMA. I can tell you for a fact that FEMA helps; I've been through hurricanes.

Glad I didn't touch that link. What the fuck ... the people of NJ are getting the help that the need, in a timely fashion. Fuck off, FEMA is doing what they are supposed to do, and the President's visit provided comfort to some people who felt that it showed that he cared. FUCK YOU. (Not YOU, but anyone who would criticize him for doing so.)

I'm sad that the OP is the one to post this because it is a real problem that needs to be addressed. The survivalism link from the OP is a distraction and is a shitty move.

I encourage people to donate to directrelief.org Bc the Red Cross has a tendency to drag their heels.
