Spreading the Word (and Pictures) on ‘Real’ Sex

Oct 25, 2012 17:53

ABOUT a decade ago, Cindy Gallop, a pixie-like businesswoman, said she began dating and sleeping with men about half her age. While their stamina and her experience made a good combination, Ms. Gallop said, she also discerned a disturbing trend: the boudoir moves of many of her young lovers seemed drawn entirely from pornography. So Ms. Gallop, now ( Read more... )

I worry that she's going to wind up fighting porn with porn and it's going to turn into just another "let's make it look good for the camera" thing. We're already hearing so much about young men who've never seen a natural breast before telling their young girlfriends how "saggy and gross" their normal, unaugmented breasts are, how young women are pressured to infantilise themselves by shaving their genitalia to look pre-pubescent. It's never ending. I just think this isn't the way to go about correcting the problem.

Yes, but if that's what you choose to do then what's the problem? I personally do not have much pubic hair, and it's not that uncomfortable, but I choose to shave anyway-not for any reason except, well, I just want to for hygiene reasons-also imo sex is better that way. Nothing to do with men, or looking pre-pubescent.

Or because it's much harder to feel stimulation under layers of pubic hair.

Jfc leave other women's pubic hair alone.

Eh, pubic hair enhances stimulation in its own way, a bit like the way it feels good when your head hair is stroked.

... this is really subjective. Personally I have to shave it because otherwise it hurts if it gets rubbed (and not even by another person, just like underwear). Thank you fibromyalgia. -_-

The only reason I don't get rid of all of it is 'cause I can't reach it. I hate it. Hate it with a passion. Hate it more than any other part of my body. Would make its permanent disappearance one of the Three Wishes if I found a genie in a bottle.

What about for purposes of increasedsensation? Why does it have to be either or?

I don't know anyone who shaves with the intent to look like an underage person.

As I mentioned above, completely removing pubes is not really comfortable (irritation, in grown hairs, chafing) or hygienic when you put yourself at risk for infections by purposefully exposing pores in a particularly bacteria friendly area.

So I'm not sure what other reasons people could have for complete removal besides aesthetics or because of social pressures (both youth-obsessed/driven).

Your experiences are not universal. There are people who opt for complete removal because it's more comfortable for them.

I don't doubt that it makes some people more comfortable, I doubt the reason they think it makes them feel that way is as simple as they think it is.

edit; also I see my wording above was sloppy. I should have used language that implied not an either or comfort/pressures but an AND.

I totally understand what you're trying to say. I suspect that a lot of what we like has been taught to us. I sometimes try to analyze why I like something and when it started and how it came to be just to see what influenced that preference. I think in some cases we're taught from such an early age that we don't even have a chance of finding out what could have been. Hope that made sense.

(not that I'm out to get people who shave or don't shave because seriously your vulva is yours and I don't wanna be involved;)
