Someone who sets herself on needs mental help, not criminal charges. She definitely doesn't need to have her name and face dragged across the media ffs.

Agreed. Healthy people do not deliberately severely burn themselves. In all sincerity, this woman needs help, and I hope she gets it.

We had a guy in Australia who set himself on fire for insurance reasons (he was burning his car) and said it was racists who did it to him. I think he burnt himself way more than he intended, so he was basically being an idiot.

Her name and face have already been dragged across the internet by well meaning people who didn't accept that maybe the police hesitancy in calling it a hate crime was legit.

This, goddamn it. I reblogged it from an anti-racism tumblr and I know racist assholes are gonna be so smug about this.

Basically. When it came out in the other post about this that the racial elements was faked, I wanted to scream.

Argh. When a person injures him/herself to that extent for a hoax, it's not about race, it's about major mental illness! People will fixate on anything to suit their agenda.

A lot of people are probably going to vilify her for this, but if she went so far as to set herself on fire, I don't think she just wanted to 'cry wolf'. I hope she is able to get some sort of help.

I really hope she gets the help she needs. When she has recovered enough from her injuries to be questioned she needs to talk to mental health care professionals, not the police.
