The real truth is that there is no actual Michael Phelps. He has always been a computer generated "person" craftily designed by corporate heads to increase revenue for things like Rosetta Stone. They also paid struggling actresses to pretend to be his "mother" and "sisters."

during the opening ceremonies this year, there were so many moments where they'd zoom out to like the drummers or the moving boxes or the tai chi dudes, and i could have sworn that someone had just copy, pasted into cgi. i could not believe what i was seeing.

I'm surprised that people actually think the performances are live. I thought it was well known that people "mime" at the opening/closing ceremonies? They use a backing track because they don't want to take any chances. It's understandable why the Sydney orchestra did it and if the organizers in Beijing had allowed Yang Peiyi to sing at the opening ceremony, she would've mimed anyway.

It's not a big deal to me.

I think you're right. I didn't care when people were freaking out over Yang Peiyi, and I was being very sarcastic when I put together the original post. It's just a SHOW, after all. I think a large reason why people overreacted to the opening ceremony "controversies" was because it was the Chinese, to be honest.

You're right, it's just entertainment. A lot of time and money goes into planning the ceremonies, so it's understandable that they would want things to be perfect. I'm sure people are going to look for more "controversies" from past opening/closing ceremonies.

I agree with the last part of your comment too.
