Yes, I agree there are logical reasons for why they're doing this, but what they're doing is ridiculous. Sit down.

Can someone explain to me exactly why they're doing this? I'm not saying this to be rude but I don't know the cause of the protests. The Beijing one I understood but this I don't.

are the protesters the ones being violent? The news mentioned it was just some crazy anarchists taking advantage of the timing or something?

It's probably a bit of both - the violent anarcho-protesters tend to really show up anywhere and cause a huge attention-grabbing ruckus. The peaceful protesters regard them a little suspiciously and distinctly do not support wanton acts of vandalism.
