Grrrr...this isn't quite as bad as when people were whining about Phelps not declaiming against human rights abuses in China, but Jesus, people. Are we so unable to judge an individual's ethos in context these days?

I really liked the article because of the point he made about how our culture idealizes Olympic stars, especially compared to all other celebrities, and expects so much more from them. Are there any other public figures for whom the standard is so high? I think even our politicians are held to a lower standard.

I think there's an argument to be made, and it makes me physically angry that there are people who expect more gravitas and discretion from a relatively sheltered 23 year old than from individuals who carry real power ( ... )
