We really *do* love Muse for their minds.

So, as we're all aware, 2012 is going to be a big year for Muse. New album, most likely a new tour near the end of the year, perhaps some new instruments (sweet!), new shenanigans, etc.

With that in mind, what does everyone hope to see in the coming year?
What direction are you hoping the next album goes in?
What new things would you like to see on ( Read more... )

album: 6th: heavy rock lullaby, just a couple of bros, taco party, we respect muse for their minds, comm: discussions

I'm hoping the album is heavy...an album full of Dead Star's, yo :D

and someone who met them on twitter said that matt said chris might sing :D (can't remember if it was a whole song or a little bit? idk) BUT that would be awesome because Chris has said he likes to sing, and it would be badass~

also hoping for angsty, angry, anti-love lyrics a la Hyper Music

as for the tour, I hope they do smaller venues again to make it a little more personal

I think their strongest skill is pulling awesome riffs out of their ass, hopefully there continues to be more of that xD

I just want the album to be so unbelievanly epic that I won't even have to think twice about liking it. (Another KOC pleeassse) I'm all for being a bit silly but I think the Resistance went overboard. So a slightly more srs bsns album would be appreciated. And no more Guiding Lights, Invincables etc. I like them and all but they're not great.

The Resistance was too cluttered sounding to me. The melodies and riffs weren't very strong, and I felt like they just covered that up by making everything over-the-top sounding. One of the things I love about Muse is that the songs can be really bombastic, but at the heart they are really well-written. So, I want beautiful melodies the most. Also, since it's 2012, an apocalypse theme for the lyrics would be awesome!

I'd also like to see the tour simplified a bit. The towers were kind of annoying, but since the focus was still on the band, it was okay for me, but the stadium set up was too much. Tons of lasers and LED lights are awesome, since they're big without taking focus off of the band.

Also I want Dom to finally do the stereotypical drummer thing and play with his shirt off. He should have longer bangs as well. Dom's appearance is very important to Muse's success, tbh.

i really love their heavy raaaargh shit like dead star and stockholm syndrome... but i also think epicness like knights of cydonia is always great.

so while knights of cydonia always makes me feel like i'm riding a unicorn through space shooting a laser gun, i want the next album to make me feel like i'm riding a unicorn through space smashing things with a hammer

okay. i had to give this a lot of thought.

here is what i want above all things. please, for the love of god, let someone else produce. their albums sounded so, SO good when rich costey and john leckie were working on them; they got just the right balance of epic, gritty, and just... this beautiful clarity. i loved that. conversely, the resistance, as hayley said, sounds really cluttered and lacking in any kind of restraint. which is fine when it comes to jamming out - i mean, voldemort can't stop the rock - but seems terribly unpolished, like they got way too excited about adding synths and shit. blablablah, but isn't part of being gritty and rocking out being unpolished? sure, but not when it sacrifices control and looks sloppy rather than artfully constructed. it comes off as cheap ( ... )

THIS.

When you self produce, the tendency to get overly self-indulgant is INSANE. Someone with an outside perspective needs to be there to say 'NO Matt, this song does NOT need 60 tracks of layered sounds added to the mix.'

it just reminded me a lot of franz ferdinand's second album... like it was too artificial. good songs, but they needed another point of view in there somewhere.
