The Hobbit now officially a trilogy

Yup, there's going to be THREE Hobbit films. Not many facts known yet, except a planned SUMMER 2014 release for the third and it doesn't affect the release dates of the first two. It's not the famous "bridge movie" that was planned years ago, rather they're just stretching their TH + LOTR appendices + non canonical inventions stuff over three films ( Read more... )

I still haven't sorted out my feelings about this. My biggest fear, is that instead of getting two amazing movies, we'll be getting three mediocre movies.

I'm worried about this too. I miss Middle-earth so much that I'm sure I'll lap up as many movies as they want to give us, in the end, but this period doesn't have anything like the breadth or depth of LotR.

Apparently I'm the only person who's excited and thinks they'll be awesome...

Aww, I'm actually really happy for you! It would be great to be just really really excited without any reservations. I guess I just care way too much - I love LOTR dearly (both book and movies) and that's why certain things about it make me ~rage even now. I wish I could just sit back and relax and enjoy it all. :D

I'm wary. I'm sure I'll be over the top excited when the release date for the first movie comes up, and I like Jackson a lot, etc, etc. But I'm not convinced this will be for the best. I thought Jackson needed someone to reign him in on King Kong--too long, too many giant-things-fighting scenes--and I'm afraid this will be the same way. On the other hand I deeply love the director's cuts of LotR, so maybe I should have more faith.
