AAAAAAAAAND if you think about it, if it wasn't for Sayid, we wouldn't have the Ben we know and love!
Him getting shot probably prevented him from being a washed up alcoholic like his pops.

Gahhhhh look, I don't want to defend Sayid trying to SHOOT a kid. But I thought the writers did a great job in getting the character into such a low state of mind and spirit that he would actually try and kill a ten year old child. They showed us Ben torturing Sayid off the island, successfully turning him into a bloody-minded murderer. So while I disagree with the course of action Sayid took I can't hate him because his character's utter hatred towards Ben was very well-developed ( ... )

I agree with your second paragraph. Sayid's life actually did suck off the island -- one miserable situation after another, and I can believe the desperate state he was in.

But killing (or attempting to kill) a kid is really dark, and I'm not sure if the writers can really pull that off properly. Given that the show focuses on redemption, I have no idea how they're going to redeem Sayid.

I don't think they're going to make Sayid try and actively redeem himself (assuming that he even makes it with that kind of injury he's got on him now) but he'll probably get what I liked to call a Heroic Death of Redemption, meaning he'll prob sacrifice himself to save someone or something important. I don't think he'll be alive by the end of the show :/ dying's the only way I can see him ending up after trying to murder a kid. Sad.

LOLOLOL Lost writers just messing with your heads! The question is: Did Sayid shooting Ben made him what he was later? A lying, manipulating daughter-killing motherfucker? (a cool one tho) or was it Richard who made him that way? Sayid just set off the chain of events that would become their timeline later, the very thing he thought he was trying to prevent.

And while we are at a rant, why not rant against Jack too? After all, he refused to operate on bb Ben, which would lead to BB Ben's need for a weepy spinal surgeon later which would crash the island years later and would result into a very successful operation.

The difference is I already actively dislike Jack, whereas Sayid was kind of cool for a while. I'm personally still interested in his character, but shooting a kid, even if it was Tiny!Benry, is kind of hard to forgive.

And there is a difference between passively refusing to act to save someone's life and intentionally trying to murder them. Even if Sayid obviously felt horribly about what he was doing at the time.

As much as I was disturbed by Sayid shotting little Ben, I can understand his reasons, especially with everything that happened to him off-Island and his history with Ben.

BUT DR. JACK: IT'S NOT OKAY TO SAY "OH LITTLE KID WAS SHOT? WHATEVER, I'M JUST A DOCTOR AND COULD HELP HIM; SO I'M JUST GONNA SIT HERE AND CHILL AROUND IN MY CHAIR" AND THEN BE LIKE "AWWW I THINK KATE DOES NOT LIKE ME ANYMOAR, I THINK I WILL BLOW UP THE ISLAND INSTEAD OF JUST TALKING TO HER BECAUSE THAT WOULD BE LAME!" I USED TO LIKE YOU A LOT MR. DR. JACK BUT YOU ARE SUCH A FUCKING DOUCHE NOW; I'M SO MAD!

Yeah, I'm A LOT angrier at Jack than at Sayid for what happened. He's a fucking DOCTOR, he shouldn't be sitting there making judgments about the people who need treatment. He's not a god, he can't decide who deserves to live and who doesn't.

As much as I love Ben, I also like Sayid, and while shooting a kid isn't forgivable, I can understand how he may have been pushed to do it. Especially with the whole time travel business, it's like he and Ben have been caught in this vicious cycle of violence. Sayid had the chance to break that cycle, but because of the violence inflicted on him in his past, did not have the faculty to do so. Possibly the same goes for Ben.
