Someone sent him an ask wondering about Bumi and Kya's lightened skintones from Comic Con. I'll see if I can fish up the ask if someone doesn't beat me to it.

A person asked me about the tint of the skin tone of an animated character and I said in reply "who cares about the color of a cartoon character" because I sure the fuck don't;)

In a perfect world with equal representation - we wouldn't have to. But as long as that isn't the case, we have to make sure the POC that we have starring in a show are represented accurately.

This is downright embarrassing.

except it was just a cap, nevermind that bumi and kya have light and darker skinned parents. you don't know what color they'll be in the show.
nevermind the cap i saw was taken on a mobile phone. if that's the only one going around...oh dear.
they're still asian. i just don't get tumblr sometimes.

If we don't take the magazine scans as canon, if I remember correctly (A link? A gif? Something?), Bumi is still a lot darker than that from his brief appearance in the finale.

The other character sheets (sans Kya, oc) seem to have their correct skintones.

I am SO disappointed that this whole mess happened. How can a showrunner not understand how important having (and not whitewash characters of color is? Especially for a show that is about real world people of color?
