Omg that Scott Parker video is GOLD.

I still haven't gotten around to Indian Matchmaking but a lot of local media are iffy about it because it apparently shows only one aspect of arranged marriages. Also, I believe that all of the girls in the show are Indian-American, which makes it even less relatable to us.

I've watched Indian Matchmaking. the4thjuliek, there is one non-American gal on the show who seeks out the matchmaker's services, her name is Ankita. She rocks. The other MVPs on the show are Nadia from New Jersey and Vyasar from Austin. <3 them.

Read that piece from Rao and agree 100% with her assessment. "I would prefer someone from North India" is code for wanting someone fair-skinned. When I was a tween, my grandfather once gave me Fair & Lovely cream as a gift when he visited my family. Lol.

Bloody hell, I'm glad my family saw Fair & Lovely for what it is.

It also affects me and my family personally because we're from the South and a bit fair-skinned but basically all of us have been mistaken for Punjabi even though my last name is a dead giveaway of where I'm from. They just assume I'm either from Delhi (a place I've been to once lol) or Punjab state (a place I've NEVER been to) and speak Hindi (a language that I do not know at all and honestly don't really need to learn because no one speaks it here). And most of these people are shocked when I tell them where I'm from. Like they can't believe it ( ... )
