France was disgusting in the last few minutes, especially Mbappe - his antics really did seem Neymar-like. I was kind of rooting for France (all of my favourites are long gone), but by the end I wanted Belgium to equalize. They were also unlucky with some ref decisions.
I did saw some moments of that match. I understand passing the ball around to waste time, delaying throw ins, and corners. But to deliberately throw away the ball when Belgium was supposed to make a throw in was very immature. I don't even think being 19 is an excuse? That was dick-ish.
Lol, my commentator said that Mbappe showed MATURITY - because he knew how to see the game out by time wasting and nerving the opponents as if he was a seasoned player. I agree with you that that incident was childish and IMO also lacked class/respect. Passing the ball, throwing corners etc. is all aceptable, but not refusing to give the ball to the opponents when it's their right to have it.
What a shame. France executed their game plan perfectly and we didn't. so they deservedly go through, I guess. It's a shame, we'll probably have to wait another 32 years before we get a chance like this. But only one team can win.
Tbh I had the same feeling all day yesterday as I had before the Spain-Germany match in 2010 and that was also won with a header. The upside is that I have my Sunday now free to pack my bags for my holiday next week.
Every team ebbs and flows. This Belgium team is golden and so is France's (coming a long way from being shambolic in south africa). Spain are going through a transition from their aging golden generation to younger players, the U.S. is starting anew after their failure, etc. :)
That's true. But for a small country like ours (11m people). The lows are a lot more common than the highs. But the euros are in 2 years, that's not that long.

I think referees should take such things into account and add allow more time over the predicted stoppage time. Here is some statistics about that, btw: https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/world-cup-stoppage-time-is-wildly-inaccurate/

Interesting article. The world would chaos if the ref gives 10 minutes!

Good luck to them, not that striking will do them any good.
