Do you think this is the first time he's ever baked/eaten cake? Possibly. He sniffs the sugar for some inexplicable reason, doesn't mix the dry ingredients (just dumps the packet of baking powder on top of the flour; also, uses too much baking powder!), doesn't tap out excess flour from the bread loaf pan, etc.

The cake looked nice but it looked a bit plain, where was the icing?! Also, the pat a cake song just doesn't sound as good in German as it does in English :(
