I thought Boateng had failed his medical? jazzypom August 6 2015, 08:32:29 UTC
That was the news on the wire yesterday. When did it change to 'image rights'?

On German-speaking Twitter at least, it was denounced as an unfounded rumour, or possibly a negotiation ploy.

that's what Sporting's official announcement said. i think the failed medical thing was just a fake rumor.

I read that Chicharito article and it was interesting from the MLS point of view, but I don't understand how this part works:

If a club wants to sign a player on the Discovery List of another team, it may offer the team $50,000 in Allocation Money in exchange for the right to sign the player. The team with the player on its Discovery List will then either (i) have to accept the Allocation Money and give up the right to sign the player or (ii) make the player a genuine, objectively reasonable offer.

If the latter happens (the player receives a genuine, objectively reasonable offer) but refuses it, does that mean he cannot sign for any (other) MLS? Or can he?

Also, 10 million sounded like a lot of money, so I went to read about the highest salaries and it made my head hurt.

from what I understand... jazzypom August 6 2015, 09:35:02 UTC
The players contract is with the MLS instead of the club in question, and the MLS has been accused of changing the rules when they want to (for instance, they decided the team Jermaine Jones was going to play for by pulling a name out of a hat. He wanted to play in California but ended up in the East Coast somewhere). I assume that it depends on how big the player is. If Pirlo wanted to go to New York City to play, I don't think Real Salt Lake (in Utah) could actually block it?

Help, sending an SOS to the MLS people on this comm.

taking the MLS teams from the article, here's how it kinda goes down:

if chicha is actually interested in signing with chicago but orlando city hold the rights to him (per their discovery list submission), then chicago can go to orlando city and say "hey, here's $50K of our own allocation money so we can buy the rights to chicha on your discovery list. what do you say?"

if that was to happen, orlando city would have to:
a) go to chicago and say, "yeah, $50K in your allocation money for our team? take chicha, he's yours!"
b) go to chicago and say, "nah, we're good. but thanks anyway!" and go to chicha and offer him a really good contract. they'd need to offer him something like $7-8 million, something reasonable.

if they offer him a really shitty contract (like orlando offering him $1.5 or $2.5 is not an objectively reasonable offer), then the discovery list is completely void. at that point, chicago could step in and offer him a legit contract, chicha could sign it and orlando city are SOL. there's some technicalities between ( ... )

it's being reported more as a curiosity or funny event than anything else, there's hardly any backlash.

Lies and slander, the other guy was probably chocking and Messi, humble prince that he is, tried to perform the Heimlich Maneuver.

Wilshere is out with a hairline fracture in the ankle, sigh. I don't know why I have hopes for the guy :(

Ugh again? He'll never cement his place in the starting lineup if he keeps on getting injured. Though I'm not so sure he would get that place anyway.

Yeah, and he already has Bug Eyes for competition anyway.

haha yes I saw the Wales thing trending yesterday. though I do have to say I feel that Belgium's ranking is highly over inflated (I thought Germany was still second ranked... not that it bothers me actually but it's very confusing. I mean it seems like winning major tournaments doesn't actually mean much since Chile is still way down the list despite bearing the "#1" team in the world only a few weeks ago. and what euro group is Romania in??). I know Wales' position has benefited a lot from that game. but yeah, I'm glad to see their hard work pay off ( ... )

Winning major tournaments doesn't really influence the list, that's true. It's only the matches that count. And although the matches are weighted, you don't get extra points for winning the tournament which is a bit strange.
