I really hope Basti uses Man Utd for money but the German press sounds quite sure. Crying tbh.
Yeah for the parade for the USA ladies. All recognition is good at this point.

it really seems like he is. TBH, he's literally won it all now, and it sounds like they're offering a lot of money so with nothing left at stake, he might as well, right?

i'm about to head to bed because it's about to be 1 am here & i've been awake since 6 am this morning, but i'll put names to players bc i love the uswnt/women's sports in general.

in this photo with swift, kelley o'hara is on her right (our left) & that's alex morgan looking at the trophy with her on left (our right) . pretty sure the player next to alex is heather o'reilly.

this is a photo of alex morgan (the smiler, of course), and pretty sure that's morgan brian to her right (our left).

this one, from our left to right: morgan brian, tobin heath, amy rodriguez, lauren holiday, alex morgan. the photo after that of them from the back is pretty much the same except in the reverse order.

the uswnt also appeared on good morning america (a popular morning show. i'm sure others can explain it better, but its just news anchors reporting the news, talking about the weather and adding in pop culture news pieces too) prior to their parade and it was adorable to see some male athletes congratulate them. you can see a little snippet here... )

Thanks for the names jazzypom July 11 2015, 08:34:47 UTC
I will amend as soon as I get on my PC. Promise!

but thank you for including the us women! from my perspective, it is really really appreciated.

Football is football, so np!

The USWNT were hungry for it, and outplayed their coach, and Rapinoe (that's the blonde looking tomboy pixie, right?) can thread a pass like no one's business.

The Lionesses are my team, and my heart can only break for one NT, you know? But congrats to the USWNT for doing the job and getting the Cup!

no worries, i can usually identify many women players because i spend 40% of my time watching just women's footie so anytime!

yes, that's rapinoe... she's remarkably brilliant when she's played in her proper position - actually many of them are when ellis doesn't put them in the wrong place (she's done that to carli this entire tournament, which is why everyone is losing their marbles about her performance in the final). rapinoe was the player who shot the pass to abby during the brazil match in 2011 - and she shot that long ball with her left foot... not her dominant foot and others said she had never even hit such a perfect cross in practice! tobin heath is really good too, as is christen, but ellis plays them horribly wrong.

but i love pretty much all the WNTs, but there's something special in my heart for the Lionesses because of Kelly. i really hope they do well at the next WWC - i am rooting for them & sweden to bring it next time!

oh! and gerrard did an interview the other day and said that he was no beckham because he was not as good looking as him. la galaxy are so awesome because they upload their training photos on imgur in folders so you can creep/save all you want (the latest set of training pictures is here, and super HQ ones of his first training here. they're seriously ridic and beautiful, i love galaxy's photogs so much)

but to make matters relevant gerrard is supposedly starting in tomorrow's match in the icc against américa but bruce only confirmed that he would definitely get 45 minutes.

Gerrard and Beckham are different ball of wax jazzypom July 11 2015, 09:17:26 UTC
Personality wise. Whereas Beckham always seemed to have the Kleig lights of the press on him (and he and his wife seemingly sought it because it would help their own commercial ventures), the Gerrards seem to be a different breed. In that, yeah, Mrs Gerrard will do the gym and be a total valley girl, but she seems to have worked the lookatmeeytis out of her system circa 2010, and Gerrard just seems to be a bloke who wants to spend time with his kids.

It will be interesting to see how MLS and Gerrard relate to each other. But I think Gerrard might be more Thierry Henry (kept a relatively low profile, worked for his team, and seemed professional and reserved) rather than Beckham. But we'll see!

I'm interested to see if Pirlo will speak English (does Andrea Pirlo speak english?).

I don't know, but this is literally what I thought yesterday about Schweinsteiger. His English comments after games have always been interesting.

But I feel like going to the PL and not speaking English (when your manager speakers german) is not quite the same as going to the US and not speaking English. Period.

Definitely. Gerrard is going to be a bit more high profile than perhaps he might expect but is used to? Beckham was somewhat the first to really have that WOW factor, the ultimate star status among the MLS players. But he is going to be a posterchild somewhat like Keane, Henry, Pirlo, Kaka, Lampard, dos Santos, Villa, and the like because the MLS clubs want people to come out and have an "experience" at the matches so they will spend $$ but because they also want people to keep coming back for more. I LOVE the fact that LA has Gerrard because, personally, he has that appeal to American footie/soccer fans for being a former European player and Liverpool favorite. So he is dissimilar from Beckham immediately and I am very hopeful and looking forward to see his popularity grow in the coming months ( ... )

Cuadrado won the FIFA 16 cover for Latin America, lol. 0.o Over Kun, Bravo and Cavani among others!

I hate to comment on their looks, but since I don't know the USWNT otherwise, Alex Morgan is so beautiful! At least in the US women's football is getting recognition, hopefully Europe will follow suit.

In England, the ladies got invited to Wimbledon, and they took pictures with David Beckham and teased him that they got a medal and he didn't. LOL. I wish they'd carry women's matches as a part of 'Match of the Day' (MOTD). I mean, publicity might be a two edged sword in that, with the increased publicity, you do get money - but then your life becomes fodder for gossips and the back pages! You really don't want The Daily Mail to be commenting about your life choices, especially if you're cheating or having affairs... so, it's a devil's deal in some ways.

I thought it was super awesome that Australia is putting Steph Catley on their FIFA 16 - the first female! I have my fingers crossed more people become interested in women's football in Europe. I try and follow as many teams as I can, streaming matches.. it's gotten to a point of certain popularity here in the US that they have shown the women's CL final - it was like seeing a dog walk on its hind legs. But I want more WNTs and their domestic leagues to get enough support; I know the women's league in Netherlands was restarted after folding the previous season so I have my fingers crossed that people start attending their matches. I wish I could go to a match in person but the closest team is Portland and that's an entire state away from me.

Alex is gorgeous & so is her BFFship with Sydney.

Yeah I saw that about Australia, nice! Women's football seems to be gaining recognition in the US, but sadly I don't see it happening in Europe, or at least not anytime soon. Maybe I'm just pessimistic, but if I didn't follow the football world online I wouldn't even know there was WWC!! I wanted to watch it this year and get into some NTs, but unfortunately due to the time zone I couldn't (on top of the fact that none of the TV channels was showing it). My country doesn't even have a WNT - we do have clubs, but I didn't even know that until checking it right this moment, because there is literally zero media coverage. :/

Christen has an interesting face, but I'm a bit taken by Alex Morgan, hehe. Besides, she apparently likes Barca! :p LOL that's a cute story. I wish MNTs and WNTs would interact more - or at all, quite frankly. The only thing I've seen during the WWC was some English players posting about their WNT and Landon Donovan leading chants for USWNT, but that's about it.

Cech attended his first training session at Arsenal yesterday. No, it still hasn't sunk in that he's with us now.
