The Arda Turan deal baffles my mind, like I would have never expected that before the talk about it started (or Arda to leave at all this summer), but if Casillas really goes to Porto that will be even a bigger WTF. We're only a few days into the transfer window and it's already one of the most shocking ones, lol - Cech, Turan, now maybe Casillas etc. :o

LOL @ "made in Italy, now in NYC", so cheesy

I know!  I'm slightly afraid of what will happen between now and August 31. I didn't even know Turan wanted to leave.

Turan did imply that he wanted to leave jazzypom July 7 2015, 08:15:40 UTC
Not necessarily because of Atletico Madrid, but because he wanted a new experience? Chelsea were in the mix for his signature, and he and the club wanted to know what was going on by July 18th. But this news is out of the blue, NGL.

Yeah I didn't either up until a few days ago. He was really popular among the Atleti fans.

Apparently, the English FA tweeted this:

If they'd used the word 'heriones' people would have had a shit fit. The fact that they were referring to the women's team as 'team England' and the rest of it, I can see why they'd used the word 'hero'?

That's a storm in a teacup, and I wonder how many of the people kvetching up a storm will show up at the player's football matches.

Storm in a teacup. It figures, England.

It was about the "mothers/daughters/partners" thing, not the "heroes" part - would they welcome a male team like that, or use language that more or less implies that they got some time off from their actual female duties?

But aren't they mothers/daughters and partners?

Unlike say, the WAGs of male footballers (the British ones don't seem to work anyway), most of The Lionesses work in professional jobs as well as ply their trade (iirc, one works with Deloitte because she can't live on the wage that the football pays her - although to be fair to the FA and the WSL, that's changing and improving).

Considering that two of the players got let go from the woman's team because they were mothers (it took Sampson to reach out and get them back) and a lot of the responsibilities of childbearing and rearing falls to women, I just... don't get the outrage.

Seriously, with the amount of effort and investment the FA has put in the woman's game over the past three years, it's unfortunate that people see it fit to kvetch. Hopefully it means that half of these culture warriors will turn out en masse for the games, but we'll see ( ... )

the Casillas to Porto rumor is killing me. what kind of random unnecessary & unwanted transfer?! i hate the guy & don't see the benefit purely on sports terms, but if he brings the money & visibility with him, okay i guess.

I admit I laughed a lot with that Porto pundit on TVI24, he asked if Casillas from 5 years ago was good? yes, but Casillas now? and then he yelled NO so loud you could hear the echo in the studio. He's pissed off.

Meanwhile, Maxi Pereira is going to Porto, apparently?

What a spectacularly entertaining pre-season.

in Portugal, it's been A+++. best transfer season in any euro league so far imo.

Oh, no doubt. At this point I'm just waiting for Benfica to go way, way OTT at making their move.

I was so hoping to see Marco Silva go to Benfica, but alas, SCP dashed my hopes. It'd have been beautiful!

Kagawa is the star inJapan clearly xD about 90% of the pre-match shots are on him

do the mascots (i mean the costumed ones) always walk out with the team o_O

and Kagawa scores the first! (it had to be him lol) 1-0

and he gets the second as well 2-0

and Auba scores 3-0

and again 4-0

and Maruoka (guess that's why they left him on the pitch, the only one from the first half) 5-0

Stankovic 6-0

(average score these past 3 friendlies= 9-0)
