OMG, I can't wait for the shitstorm that will accompany Rafa's arrival at Real. It's going to be a great season, everyone! Especially if like you say, he's going to build the team around Bale (not that I have anything against Crispy). And the Bernabeu crowd can't do anything, ha!

I want to say Bangkok, but I'm not so sure

Yup, they're playing a friendly or played a friendly (I can't remember) against the Thailand NT.

Arsenal will be holding the Emirates Cup in July. The teams playing are Villarreal, Lyon and Wolfsburg (LORD BENDTNER RETURNS). And of course, the FA Cup will be known as the Emirates FA Cup which has resulted in many sad jokes, sigh.

Next season is going to be interesting at Real. But when is it not?
I can understand that he wants to make Bale the focus of attack. But it's not like Crispy doesn't deserve his prominent role.

Ronaldo is 30 to Bales's 25, and I think it's more in mind of shifting the positions now before Ronaldo's decline. They do say that Perez likes the fact that Benitez seems to be pretty unfussed when it comes to players and their feelings, because he felt that Ancelotti was too much in thrall to the players. Oh, and the fact that Benitez isn't bothered by boos and flags from crowds really helps, too.

Well that's true. And they do need more options. But Rafa will be the 12th manager since Del Bosque in 2003 so I don't have a lot of faith that he'll be there for the long term.

One of the Karlsruhe players went on record before the match saying they want to switch Hamburg's clock off.

Can't blame him. Hamburg deserve to go down. They're such a poisonous team like Sunderland.

I was very excited yesterday as Karlsruhe was my local team and the first professional football match I went to. I never dreamed they'd end the season so well.

Juventus start to acknowledge 39 victims of Heysel after 30 years - read this article not even an hour ago, lol. it's a great one & v touching, def recommend reading.

Italians are seething (again) because apparently the FIFA scandal also involves the 2002 WC being rigged in favor of South Korea. who can forget that match against Italy refereed by Moreno? and Spain was equally robbed in the subsequent match.

also, i just found out that the Spanish federation is voting for Blatter and i'm shocked. i understand the attempted power play behind it, but wtf.

another (old) Heysel article The Guardian just tweeted - The Witnesses

reading it now.

In the aftermath, Uefa seemed to take their lead from Margaret Thatcher . She considered Heysel to be solely the fault of Liverpool. This made it easier for Uefa to ban English clubs for five years, without even investigating why Heysel happened. Everyone at the club felt the aftermath. It affected Joe Fagan [Liverpool's manager] in many ways. Bruce Grobbelaar considered retiring from football and nearly 20 years on many players will still not discuss it.

One of the many reasons why FA and UEFA have tension, here. This is where it sharpened, I think.
