The sight of Thumbsy's pale thighs is a bit terrifying.

Mou is in a good mood, according to the Guardian. He even expressed sympathy at the Arsenal-Reading match airing at the same time as the Chelsea-United match (still got the tiniest of jabs at Wenger though). Things will be pricklier next week.

Yeah that is some bull patties, why would you schedule the FA cup against a pl match? I know it's Reading, but. That being said, not everyone has bt or sky, but most people have the been, so eyes will be on the screen, or listening to five live. Not everyone is a Chelsea or Man U fan.

yay @ Serie A. the best case scenario they mention in the article will never happen, but it's nice to see them climb up the rankings. and it's kinda nice to see EPL's snobbish disdain for EL is starting to work against them in a very concrete way. they moan and moan about how EL tightens their playing schedule, but hey - pretty much all main European leagues also have 2 matches per week + 2 cup tournaments per year, so that's bullshit. we all know the real reason the EL holds little interest to the richest league in Europe is money - or lack thereof, rather.

i don't think De Gea will be benched if he goes to RM. Casillas is clearly on a steep decline, both form and popularity-wise. buying another high profile Spanish gk sends a pretty clear message about what the club's intentions are.

re: Kappa
they really lost a lot of popularity since the 90s. we used to see it everywhere! i know Sampdoria and Torino are still sponsored by them, but i can't think of many other teams who also are, not even in Serie A.

It's a slog, Europa league with 2 domestic cups, PL title and not to mention matches 4 nights a week come next season. But yeah, europa isn't worth it if you are already a top seven pl team, it is not worth it financially, no. Supporters also find it expensive and off putting. The two legged tie, the far flung places... Unlike say if you're aiming for the top half of the table like swans, or west ham so it is a marker, but after the first couple of seasons Europa gets real old, real quick.. Besides the FA and UEFA don't get on, the FA refuses to reschedule the matches on weekends if you play on. Thursday _the Spurs fans can tell you about that _ so yeah there's a bit of kanye shrug at Europa over here. It is seen as a poisoned chalice.

the FA isn't more accommodating because it's not lucrative and the club's attitude towards it (clearly not giving a shit, fielding the b-team, etc.) also influences the fans' and puts absolutely no pressure on the FA, so it's all a vicious circle.

that being said, i agree that the format change (from UEFA Cup to Europa league) hurt the tournament A LOT. making it more inclusive necessarily decreased its quality (same reason why i oppose increasing the number of teams in World and Euro Cups - EL is the biggest warning against it, if one was ever needed). the initial phases are boring as hell, with matches against unknown teams in distant (and often hostile - in more than one way) locations. but the latter stages still make it worth it imo. maybe it's because i'm from a southern European football culture, but winning the EL is still a pretty big deal to me.

That doesn't surprise me about Luis Enrique tbh. He seems to have a weird attitude towards players - not bad (I guess) if it's successful, but weird nonetheless. I prefer managers who are also mentors to players ... Mathieu has a big mouth though, lol, this is at least the 3rd time he's revealing things like that.

I went to look for more pics of Mou and Van Gaal at Barcelona and there are many of Mou and Guardiola ... awkward/weird to see that now!

I really think Barca turning down Mou for Pep is a slight that he'll never get over, tbh. Then for Mou to go to Real Madrid? Mess

Wow that pic of Thumbsy and Mourinho. Those clothes!

Football this week wasn't great for my teams. I hope that this weekend will be better. Although I will miss the Real match because of a birthday party.

Belgium will overtake the Netherlands because the Dutch clubs weren't too big a fan of the EL either. They didn't find the matches interesting enough resulting in a lot of losses. Belgian clubs have tried hard in the EL so we will overtake them next season. There is talk about a BeNe league. That would majorly improve the league but I don't think that's ever going to happen. The Dutch clubs don't want it, neither do the small Belgian clubs but if Anderlecht or Ajax ever want to compete on the big European stage again, we won't have another choice.
Belgium recently lost 5 16-year-old players to Italian and English clubs and that's a big problem. The best talents leave early (also stupid Courtois and De Bruyne played a few seasons in Belgium first and look where they are now.)
