Mou is in a good mood, according to the Guardian. He even expressed sympathy at the Arsenal-Reading match airing at the same time as the Chelsea-United match (still got the tiniest of jabs at Wenger though). Things will be pricklier next week.

i don't think De Gea will be benched if he goes to RM. Casillas is clearly on a steep decline, both form and popularity-wise. buying another high profile Spanish gk sends a pretty clear message about what the club's intentions are.
re: Kappa
they really lost a lot of popularity since the 90s. we used to see it everywhere! i know Sampdoria and Torino are still sponsored by them, but i can't think of many other teams who also are, not even in Serie A.

that being said, i agree that the format change (from UEFA Cup to Europa league) hurt the tournament A LOT. making it more inclusive necessarily decreased its quality (same reason why i oppose increasing the number of teams in World and Euro Cups - EL is the biggest warning against it, if one was ever needed). the initial phases are boring as hell, with matches against unknown teams in distant (and often hostile - in more than one way) locations. but the latter stages still make it worth it imo. maybe it's because i'm from a southern European football culture, but winning the EL is still a pretty big deal to me.

I went to look for more pics of Mou and Van Gaal at Barcelona and there are many of Mou and Guardiola ... awkward/weird to see that now!

Football this week wasn't great for my teams. I hope that this weekend will be better. Although I will miss the Real match because of a birthday party.
Belgium will overtake the Netherlands because the Dutch clubs weren't too big a fan of the EL either. They didn't find the matches interesting enough resulting in a lot of losses. Belgian clubs have tried hard in the EL so we will overtake them next season. There is talk about a BeNe league. That would majorly improve the league but I don't think that's ever going to happen. The Dutch clubs don't want it, neither do the small Belgian clubs but if Anderlecht or Ajax ever want to compete on the big European stage again, we won't have another choice.
Belgium recently lost 5 16-year-old players to Italian and English clubs and that's a big problem. The best talents leave early (also stupid Courtois and De Bruyne played a few seasons in Belgium first and look where they are now.)
