I can't deal with some Bayern stans on Tumblr. You can still stan for Basti while acknowledging that his costume was offensive at the same time.

Performing Redface is generally considered racially insensitive and offensive, yes. It's making a costume of a culture/people. The same way that doing blackface or yellowface (dressing up in traditional East Asian culture attire as a gimmick or costume) is offensive.

Yes, I agree that it might be pure ignorance, and I am guilty of it too. I admit the first time I heard the expression (blackface) when some Balotelli fans painted their faces black to show their support for him - which actually appreciated because he didn't know Blackface either. However, I had to learn that for some people it obviously is offensive.
Children in Germany at Basti's age grew up with Winnetou (not sure if you know the character by Karl May) and they dress as "Cowboy und Indianer" at kids parties. It's entirely innocent. Ignorant, yes, but not evil in any way.
