So English clubs spent 1 170 000 000 pounds on tranfers. That's a lot. And the difference with the other leagues is massive. Of course that's not the net spend. But it's still a staggering figure.
Bild is reporting today that Boateng went to court to settle an agreement with his former agent, it's about 700 000 euros. They didn't work out a settlement. It really makes you wonder how much Jorge Mendes makes every year.
Lol, Jorge Mendes was the first who came to my mind, too! Given how much agents make just from such fees, it's not that strange that some players have their fathers as managers (if someone is going to make money out of it, why not your family? besides, they probably don't have to pay them) - although I still maintain that mixing family and money/business is not wise.
Mesut Özil got in a fight with his father about money. Money and family can lead to problems. But if you make good arragements you could probably trust your family more than some shady people. On the other hand you need to have a parent who knows something about contracts or otherwise you both get ripped.
You might trust them more that they'll not intentionally screw your over, but things can go wrong without malicious intent - and in that case it's more difficult to "fire" a family member and hold them liable. Not to mention the added stress to the family dynamics, it must be difficult to distinguish whether in a particular moment someone is telling you something as your father or as your "employee" (manager or any other position).
