Has someone crunched the numbers of how much money there is in the EPL football that is played while other leagues are on break?

If LVG and Rooney are willing to take a pay cut and can convince all of their peers down to the groundskeepers to do the same, then no problem, right? ;-P I think the problem is more that many of these clubs aren't using their bench effectively. If someone wants a break, well, they can do a Giroud. Gotta make it more convincing, Sterling!

Good question! jazzypom December 30 2014, 11:49:11 UTC
I've been trying to find an exact figure, but no joy. Considering that most football fans in England see it as a day out with family, it would be hard to change the tradition, probably coaches should have a gentleman's agreement and use that period to play with academy/relatively unproven talent. Like you say, I think the problem is more that many of these clubs aren't using their bench effectively. This! That's what you have academy talents for. iirc back in the day that's when you'd get the potential academy breakthroughs in, even for a couple of matches, and rotate the bench. But with managers under the kosh in terms of wins all the time, I guess they think that they have to use their star players all the time, but even the smaller teams have what, 19-23 players on the roster? Rotate them ( ... )

Sterling can be a snot though. I remember he shouldered past a referee once, and the referee was aghast because you don't touch the refs. He told Gerrard to speak to him and Sterling calmed down after that. But yeah, Sterling needs a rest before he slaps someb- oops, too late.

Are you referring to the incident where he touched Howard Webb? It was against Arsenal, I think. I died when that happened.

Great stuff from Liverpool. Poor Swans, looks like Shelvey's LFC curse still stands. And Rutledge's shorts got a lot of attention. Lots of whistling and catcalls and Gary Monk couldn't help but laugh. It wasn't one of Fabby's best days, sigh. That second goal is unfortunately, a mistake he's made before.

Of course, Danny is injured. Can I kill Dumb Baguette? So we might have to start Theo as a striker. Or Sanogo. But the Welsh Prince is supposed to be back for the Thursday match so that gives me some hope.

With a lot of PL teams now having foreign managers, it's nice to see a young English lad doing the business in the PL. My stream was so bad, I could only keep one page open at a time, which is why you didn't see me in the comm last night. I could only watch that match with one window open! Then I went to bed.

Yeah, I think this should be LFC's starting XI going forward. I have much respect for Gerrard, but I do think that with him on the field, the others genuflect to him too much, or expect him to take them forward, whereas last night when he wasn't on the pitch, everyone seemed to have all hands on deck.

Oooh Rutledge! I'm just so glad that he was wearing underwear and not just a jock strap. :P But my comm pointed the camera into the cloud and sky. I was like >:(

Giroud wanted New Year's Day off. If you see pictures of him in France living it up, do not be surprised!

Anyone might start, except for Poldi T-T

Didn't we say that Poldi had to start? If he had played in place of Welbeck, Arsene wouldn't have this problem.

Good win for Liverpool! I'm glad that they finished on a high. I Can gets more playing time cause I think he's been playing well.

Lol Poldi, I have no idea what statement you mean.
I simply hope Torres does well at Atletico. It can't be nice to be the laughing stock of every competition.

lol Toni Kroos looks intense in that pic!

I'm not a big fan of sand so I don't think it would be for me.

And there's hardly any greenery there (what with being a desert, lol). You can't really walk around and stuff. Their solution to everything is air-conditioning.
