Whoa, I'm super late but I'm always up for an Asian football post! Lol, it's awesome that the Philippines are ranked higher than India (we're top at the most boring sport on earth, cricket). And such a group of hotties too! Lots of youth players from Chelsea, wow. I'd love to see teams from South and South-East Asia do well at the AFC but I think all the countries have a long, long way to go :(

Thanks for such a lovely post, sis!

I know. :( But we'll get there one day. First Southeast Asia... and then, Asia in general!

You guys have the prettiest team! I think Deyto is the cutest :)

My OH was writing about Alcantara earlier (he's working on a football book): Great footballer, terrible politics.

Deyto is our lord and savior. Haha. He's one of my faves.

True about Alcantara, though. A franquist fascist playing for Barcelona? Messy.

Coming out of the darkness!

Been lurking since the World Cup cause you know, there were not much people to talk to around here during those 4:00am games.

Misagh Bahadornan is the cutest. I've had the joy of watching the Azkals live in a few matches. I hope they keep on getting better.

Yesss. Welcome to the light, sis!

Haha. Well, we're always here on match days so you should stick around! :D

I should really try to watch one of their home games live. Preferably at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. Need to find someone to go with.

Cheers!

Your post worked. :)

I always lurk like early morning or in the evening. But during match times, damn, it's hard for us here in the Philippines. So I just read through the comments.

For real! I usually only stay up for my favorite clubs so when they're on at ungodly hours (like 3:45 am, smh), I usually take a nap before it or sleep early and then either go back to sleep or stay awake after the game.

HIIII!

I've been lurking in this comm for quite a long time now and I just have to come out and comment because FILIPINO PRIDE!!!

I've been watching the Azkals since '11 and their performance against Indonesia yesterday was by far the best I've seen from them. I kept screaming in front of the TV yesterday! I just can't help but give credit to Coach Dooley for mixing it up and actually letting home grown players in (Deyto, Aguinaldo, etc). I must admit that I doubted the boys and thought Indonesia would get it but damn, they always prove me wrong! These boys keep getting better. It's a great time to be alive for Filipino football! <3

Also, the boys are totally cute irl. The Younghusbands visit my high school to teach football to kids which is really endearing to watch. Also, when I watched the Peace Cup '12, MISAGH WAVED BACK AT BEFORE HE WAS SUBBED IN. /swoooons

Kudos to this lovely post, OP (Asst. Coach Sebastian Stache is a cutie too)!

They are trying to create more home grown, or at least UFL players, to be part of the Azkals. I think this is one of the issues with Schrock or Etheridge. Having the players all come from local clubs will give them more opportunities to practice and play together. Well, at least this is what someone from the inside told me when I asked about those two.

Though honestly, I haven't been paying much attention to the Azkals as I did in previous years. I should probably regain my Azkals appreciation.

Dooley has the same line of thinking as Klinsi, then. Using more players from the MLS for the USMNT. (Not surprising as he was assistant coach to Klinsi back in 2011, apparently.)

Not really updated with the team anymore so thanks for this OP!

Got to work with the Azkals back in 2011-2012. They got some really hot players haha. (YOUNGHNNNNNGSBANDS tbh lmao). Quite friendly and nice too!

Ngl, I had this huuuuuge crush on Aly Borromeo back when he was still captain. Didn't even care that my boss teased me endlessly about his lip ORZ. Plus my love for the GER national squad sort of spilled over the Azkals bc I really liked Roland Muller, Denis Wolf etc etc too haha

Mostly events and photoshoots :) I used to help make campaigns and write articles for one of the brands they endorsed.

I remember facilitating this football clinic for kids and I got assigned to the players who couldn't speak english. I can laugh about it now but it was such a struggle back then hahaha. Imagine Angel Guirado and Carli de Murga doing weird sign languages because we couldn't understand each other :))))))
