I really don't understand why it's not eight games. Didn't Suarez set the precedent? The FA is such a joke.

Ugh, and the fine itself is a joke because it doesn't really punish him. £220,000 is probably less than two weeks of wages for him. Why can't the FA be consistent on this issue? It's just so depressing.

Again, being fair to the FA, these fines are set based on their general rules & apply to all levels of footballers - not just well paid PL players. So the fine structure is preset and while it's pocket change for some EPL player, it's a hell of a lot more for others, and you can't just increase the fine amounts because for a few players it's not a lot.

It's the same thing as when people get a speeding ticket - it's the same fine for everyone, but it's going to hit a millionaire a lot less than it's going to hit a broke student. What I would prefer to see is that instead of the fine structure being set by amount, it was set by proportion of wages - so instead of £XXXX fine they get X% of their weekly/monthly/annual wage

Whomp whomp. Not much of a penalty, is it? What a judicial rigmarole, though.

At least he's fading out of the international circuit in relative disgrace. Byeeeee mothafuckaaa.

TBF to the FA, the reason Suarez got a longer ban was because of the repeated nature of the incident, whereas JT said it once and because of the situations they were used in.

I'm not saying it's right and TBH the FA should have given him a longer ban of games but the "basic" punishment is 4 games, Suarez got the additional ban because of the circumstances.

Is this not over yet?

The really sad thing is £220,000 can pay me AND my brother through my mad expensive art school and it's not even a slap on the wrist for this guy. That's not even two weeks' wages. If I made that much in TWO YEARS at the end of my career I would call myself successful. And he's not going to cry about losing it in a day. You know how many dollars that is? $356,730. Over 350 thousand? I lied, that can pay me, my brother, AND my sister's college and we would have to be paying though the rest of our lives. That is just obscene.

Not so "clearly innocent" now, are you JT? Dick ( ... )

Ah hah. Re-reading the Suarez case, it says they calculated the fine after taking into account his weekly salary. So presumably the 40k was a certain percentage of Suarez's weekly wage. JT is probably on far more at Chelsea than Suarez and hence why his fine was larger.

"445. We also fined Mr Suarez £40,000. In doing so, we took account of the information that was placed before us about his weekly salary. We considered this to be appropriate and proportionate in the light of Mr Suarez's misconduct."
